About

Hi, I'm Matt - and I've been obsessed with building beautiful homes for over 30 years.

I remember as a child going on site inspections with my dad, a structural engineer, who was always building or renovating our home. I found making things through building to be incredibly interesting. As a kid I was always fascinated by how things fit together - and I still am today.

My Journey

I started structural drafting in high school to make some extra cash, formalising this with an apprenticeship in 1998. That early foundation in structural engineering has been invaluable - when I design your home, I'm thinking about how it looks AND how it actually gets put together.

My apprenticeship led me to study Architectural Technology at TAFE, where I discovered 3D CAD. Seeing 3D as the future of architecture, I bought a commercial CAD license immediately and started providing documentation services for architects, developers and councils. This sparked my interest in architecture, leading me to complete my Bachelor of Architecture with Honours at Newcastle University in 2005.

During these formative years, I spent time working for other architects, building pools and labouring on sites - some of my best education came from getting my hands dirty.

What I Do

I've been running my own architectural practice since 2010, specialising in luxury residential homes on the Central Coast, Newcastle, and Sydney. I get genuinely excited about solving problems - give me a site that everyone else says is "impossible" and I'll show you the potential.

I've also enjoyed working on hospitality projects like Six String Brewing Co, Distillery Botanica, Better Days Cafe and Carne & Cucina, which keep me sharp and bring fresh ideas back to my residential work.

Recognition

I've received seven architectural awards between 2018 and 2025 from the Newcastle and NSW Architecture Awards. The North Avoca Studio project was featured on Australia By Design, and my work has been published internationally. But honestly, the best recognition comes from clients when they walk into their finished home for the first time.

My Approach

My style has been described as refined coastal modernism, with brutalist influences, but I really just like to design homes that feel protected, yet allow you to feel free in your own space and connected to nature. I like to work with robust materials that can handle weather, kids, or pets - but it's more about getting the details right than picking expensive finishes.

As a certified NatHERS assessor, I do in-house energy assessments to ensure you get the most comfortable and efficient house without compromising aesthetics or function.

I provide an end-to-end architectural service, working closely with builders and trades on site to ensure they understand the intent and quality required. I'm also passionate about sharing knowledge, regularly running CPD events on the Central Coast.

Let's Talk

If you're thinking about building a new home - whether it's perched on a cliff, nestled in bushland, or facing the ocean - I'd love to hear about your vision. I work with clients who want something extraordinary, and I bring three decades of experience to make sure we can actually build it.

I'm registered as an Architect in NSW and Queensland, and registered under the Design & Building Practitioners act to design Class 2 multi residential buildings. I carry comprehensive professional indemnity insurance, I’m a member of the Home Energy Raters Assosciation and an A Plus member of the Australian Institute of Architects.

More importantly, I'm someone who genuinely cares about creating homes that change how you live.
